Our strategy is developmental – my organization (U.S. Green Building Council) is driven by mission – we are here to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life” We accomplish this mission through LEED. And from a developmental standpoint, we have long sought to bring LEED to the China marketas it is a global rating systemthat has regional and local applicability.
A localized approach with LEED is paramount. What’s more, wecontinue to increase our on-the-ground capabilities and resources to better meet and serve our many clients in China. We continue to localize LEED through the creation of Alternative Compliance Paths (ACPs). We also serve and support our close to 3,000 LEED APs (credential holders) in this market. Additionally, we have more locally relevant educational materials as well as establishing additional partnerships with key developers and organizations. By taking these steps, and others, we are working to make sure that LEED is the best possible product to help China fulfill the environmental and green development mandates and obligations of the 13th Five Year Plan.
And last but not least, our Greenbuild conference is coming to China this year for the very first time. At Greenbuild China we will celebrate the many Chinese leaders who are making a positive difference in the built environment.
我们通过创建ACPs(合规性的替代途径)来继续本地化LEED。

We definitely don’t consider this a challenge – we consider this a wonderful development for China. We encourage any and all green building – whether LEED or not. Our goal is to make our buildings more efficient, healthier and producing less waste. We welcome allgreen building rating systems and this is encouraging to see in China, as it demonstrates a serious effort to environmental and health concerns in the country. I also urge project teams to become knowledgeable of LEED as a resource that can contribute greatly to improving quality of the country's built environment and its approach to building and resource consumption. You may find that LEED make additional contributions to your project and, in fact, we see many projects take their commitment to sustainable building one step further, by pursuing LEED certification in addition to these other systems. All too often, green rating systems are seen as being in competition with one another, or as mutually exclusive endeavors. This is not the case.
At USGBC, our goal is to create the safest, best buildings possible for the benefit the building's owners, its occupants and visitors, and ultimately, for the good of the entire planet. In pursuit of this dream, it is essential to remember that sustainability and green building are not zero sum games with winners and losers—healthy buildings are a win for us all.

Absolutely. Every year we increase our commitments in China. We’ve expanded our in-country staff with technical and marketing expertise. We have continued to promote LEED education that teaches a very sophisticated approach to green building for new construction, existing buildings, and neighborhood development. And we’ve introduced Arc,a new state of the art platform designed tohelpcollect, manage and benchmark project data to improve sustainability performance. Arc tracks energy, water, transportation, waste and human experience.

We are only limited by our failure of imagination. We will continue to push the boundaries with LEED and deliver higher performance and efficiency. We are also looking at different ways to apply LEED on a city scale. And we will be introducing a LEED for Transit rating system in China as buildings and transportation are the two biggest drivers of CO2 emissions. Additionally, we’ll be looking to form alliances with developers, building owners, investors, and government officials. USGCB has a big vision: regenerative buildings and communities that sustain all life within a generation. Our vision is as inclusive as it is actionable, and I firmly believe that our opportunities to realize that vision are limitless.
